There needs to be a way to report bad-faith creations (eg. theft) and actions that are bad for the community
It's kinda bad form to post this again, but I feel like it's more vital now that ever with the influx of new power-hungry players.
There is currently no way of reporting non-remixes, where they've remixed something someone took a long time making, made no changes, then stuck it in a dream as if they made the whole thing.
And also people that just put other people's dreams in their dream with no additions or reason to include it beyond pretending they made it, for the likes and followers.
Currently there is no way of reporting these kinds of community-souring bad-faith actions. And any attempt to report these things is quickly denied.
We need some way to report these things before people stop making their things remixable because they're scared they'll just get ripped off.
Mm have acknowledged the problem and have started putting things in place to resolve it. Previously even if you released a game, people could just put your game wrapped up in their own dream creation and get all the credit. So as it was, whether or not you kept the elements and scenes private and just released the dream didn't matter; people could still steal your work.
It is not an issue you made it public, and someone used it. Next time you make it private if giving to the community is not your thing.
i completely understand this, there's inspiration, but then there's stealing, and I heard a random guy got his work stolen by some dude, and it was perfect model, and that makes me scared to have a perfect game, someone might steal that too.
Having spoken with one of the guys in question he isn't going to stop his bad behaviour. If anything he is taking it up a notch with racist, homophobic, tracks set to non remixed content using his other accounts. Its all a joke to him. He doesn't care when MM moderates his content which they have again. He is friends with the other main culprits and has a growing following of 400. Have reported and been denied. A ban hammer is needed before it gets out of hand
media molecule need to get all over this. Issues of this nature were left to fester too long in LBP without being addressed which let these negative behaviours massively impact on the experience
Back in LittleBigPlanet, my favourite response to this kind of thing was to stick a sticker with the message "this is a copy" on the scenery, take a photo, and upload it. Unfortunately, we don't have play mode stickers in Dreams.
No, it’s not a solution - also probably a lot of players don’t realize that commenting can boost something they when they really don’t want to.
I think part of the problem is that what’s being done here doesn’t actually violate any rules that have been laid out, so in making this reportable we’d need to also see it clearly outlined somewhere what is considered bad-faith. Probably that should be different for Dreams vs Elements, for instance doing a remix in order to optimize someone else’s creation (when I do that I always put the creators name into the title) is different from just doing a remix to stick something into a Dream whiteout making any effort to mention the original.
Yeah, I saw that post. I mean, that's fine and factual. But it's definitely not a solution to the problem. It's ignoring the problem. And there will still be a lot of people who don't know it's stolen who will comment and like and share and follow, so the few people who know they're a bad egg aren't going to make much of a dent in the algorithm anyway.
I agree, it's hard to decide something like this algorithmically. But that's exactly why you have ways for the community to submit reports about this behaviour. We can report other kinds of content other than theft so this shouldn't be any different, in my mind.
Claire from Mm posted a tweet saying that it’s actually best not to engage at all with undesirable content, because any activity on that creation will contribute to its trending :(
I don't know why this post is so abandoned, 70% of trending dreams are those stolen dreams for a few accounts, and a few of them are commenting the same thing in every dream
I previously commented on the discussion linked in this post
In general, for now it's just a few rotten apples. But if Mm doesn't take proper action I see this becoming a huge issue.
I won't call any names, but I think most people know that there are atleast 2 guys going all the way...
- They "remix" creations, and release them with no or very very little changes
- If someone credited themselves in the creation, they remove it
- Some even go as far as adding THEIR OWN name to the creation, giving the illusion that they made it
- They create multiple new accounts to like their main account's creation + follow their main account
- If anyone calls them out on their behaviour in the comments, they use the earlier mentioned new accounts to spam useless comments. This way, you have to scroll a long time before you see the comments calling them out. Basically, they're trying to hide the fact they got caught.
- And the most mindboggling stuff, they go to the original creation and comment "you stole this from me"
I think Mm should sent out a clear statement by banning these guys. It's probably a really vague line, what is remixing someone's level and what is straight up copying someone's level, but people that do stuff like I mentioned obviously don't have the right intentions.
It’s a frustrating thing to se happen, for sure. I think it’s also very hard to deal with in a way that’s not open to abuse.
Maybe there could be a way of lagging Dreams as not original content and if the genealogy shows that everything was made by someone else, it would be harder for that Dream to trend?
