Surface Snap rotates the other guides.
When you combine surface snap with another guide like kaleidoscope, everything gets rotated 90°
Turn on surface snap and kaleidoscope and paint on a flat surface. The kaleidoscope is not snapped to the surface. Its rotated 90°.
Turn on surface snap, paint on a flat surface, tweak the painting and add positional duplicates, on disc.
The duplicates are rotated 90°
This was troubling me too and I wasn't aware of what was truly going wrong. Good eye. Thank-you Fleckromancer

Ah gotcha. Yeah, looks like it's bugged to me.
So does this mean we can get the kaleidoscope to work on another plane as we sculpt as well?
If so I like it.
B/c I always forget to do the kaleidoscope on the Z/X plane AKA top down. It would be awesome to be able to use it on the Y/X, Y/Z planes too.

Do you mean the individual flecks are rotated 90 degrees?
Something to remember is that the orientation and initial edit position is used to dictate things like the mirror and kaleidoscope orientation and position. Could that be the issue here?
