IMO There is precise and fast color picking already in the form of a color wheel and triangle which is by no means a 3-4 outta 10 its at least a solid 6. A few paint flecks can serve as fast color and all those colors can be saved as well. It would help if the color picker had those saved colors showing up though.

I'm not against having better color tools for the record but, this argument really only goes so far. You can delete your palette tools after assigning colors the thermo really isn't a huge issue. Something many dreamers have yet to recognize is dreams may be minimalist but, they've given us the tools to make our own tools which is incredible.

Where I'd like to see an improvement is having the color picker work on all color panels such as properties dialog

I'm not against improvements at all but, much rather see them add features we don't have the ability to access before improving features that are a little lackluster.

some tools you have to develop yourself.

If you want precise colors you have to take the time to either download a palette you can pick from, or use an RGB color picker developed by the community. you can get precise colors, with just a little bit of effort. tho imo it does work with motion controls fine anyways.

The real trouble is the time it takes to resize shapes so, if they could add a feature in for percentages of sizes this would be a start. As it stands have to hit d-pad too many times scaling up and down from default size. The range of scales could at least be fixed with a +/- percentage bar (-200% or +200% based on the 0.5 m default shape scale. )

It could be very useful. It not a bad idea at all.

I've suggested something which would produce a similar result and after a bit of discussion came to the conclusion it would be best recognized as 'shape presets'

It would work sorta how you save a color mix in the tumbler, only for shapes you define instead.

however for the sake of a workaround there kinda is a way to do what youre saying already but it involves cloning over that sculpture you want the properties of and working off that deleting the clone within that sculpt (if its unwanted.)

the properties you mentioned other than color will stay the same... and there is the color picker to grab the original color or the palette. but really for the purposes you mentioned that can already be achieved fairly easily without any new feature being considered.

The Width control would be useful if we could set something like we have with paint tumbler but, instead it was fleck width that would range depending on the sizes of flecks we chose. Even have it so we could wire a signal into the imp so we could rig it up, unless there already is a way to wire controls to do that with d-pad which IDK.

I was mostly wrong about this. I just didn't understand it at the time. now that I understand, its really not so bad for ellipses (though angles would be nice on a clone curve.) Also you can animate the clones, the key is cloning within the painting using the move tool. I apologize for the misinformation and withdraw my feedback.

    RabidDevilBadger commented  ·

True but, the trouble I had with cloning was for low opacity curves where the strokes overlap and didnt look nice. If its not an opaque painting, getting a smooth line without that effect escaped me.

There's so many interesting ways to generate textures in Dreams and, many methods have yet to be fully explored. Paint has the ability even to add animated texture and clones of a smear across a surface in sculpt mode textures work too. A hollow shape roughs up a sculpt nicely as well. The volume brush is another way to add style and coat etc to painted flecks. Many other methods to generate textures within Dreams.

sorry, i misunderstood. its a cool idea though I think this would likely not be allowed due to the reasons mentioned but, also because there's so many varying degrees of looseness, fleck combinations and finishes. Those properties would very much interfere with anything baked in and I wouldn't guess a bitmap translates to a fleck in any simple way. It would be really hard to implement and understand. Also we aren't even allowed pictures for references much less using them as a type of source material. Though it is likely unfeasible for Dreams it is still a really interesting concept. Maybe in the future they'll consider something on this line of thinking

An error occurred while saving the comment
    RabidDevilBadger commented  ·

Can already do that. As a workaround you can use colored lights to produce that effect, plus there are 16 images in the properties (which can be combined with other light images. )

if you want even more custom designs, or shadows of a different variety, you can place objects or even paintings in front of lights as well. hope this helps.

Thanks@Pookachoo when I found this I was super excited, next day I watch a Kareem stream and, he was indeed using the "sweep" function lol. Anyhow I think this may have been overlooked because it shows up with the moves a little easier but, the DS4 not so much however, its a really fun feature once its discovered :)

@Thyon To clarify I'm not talking about having any more than a single shape preset, so it would just be a single cube but with the settings of shape edit such as a stretch or hole edit saved.
The program already saves the last shape used so I really don't think this would be a problem for the memory. (Not asking for multiple shapes in a preset,) just simple ones for single shapes I can preset, so I don't have to set them up. it would be very useful to reuse curve shapes for example.

Well it's an inkling of an idea anyways... I appreciate the concept being considered by you three at all.

I see alot of users complain about not being able to transfer materials over to a new sculpt (even tho this isn't really a big issue i think it confuses people) I'm thinking if there was even the ability to store a few preset shapes it could go a long ways in solving that plus a few new sculpting abilities.

either way I'm here till the party is over. :)

NGL most of what you two are saying is way over my head but, I appreciate the discussion and your ideas on this matter. It's not as simple of a feature as I initially thought.

An afterthought to simplify this concept and possibly a better term: imagine having the ability to define 'shape presets' for example the curve shape. does that make more sense?

The basic idea would be much like how we can save paint in the tumbler, instead though, we would be able to save shapes, like say i had a hollowed half sphere of a specific size and I wanted to use this somewhere else in a another sculpt, I could hit save just like with the tumbler ...and this would head to a little sub menu in sculpt mode so I could have the consistent shape sizes etc.

I also like this idea of other properties being stored in the shape memory, or whatever the best terminology is, because it would make it very easy to grab a cloud sphere or a bush sphere and keep those flecks consistent. I apologize as the idea is a little cumbersome to explain. Though i think it would help a lot of different scenarios. thanks for listening and the votes

Another issue relating to this, is working in very large or very small scales. Resizing different shapes to accommodate large scale differences can be painstaking. Some type of shape memory, even rudimentary, would enable a much faster workflow at different scales.

Crash courses would be excellent. If they added a master class in for each area including curation, it would benefit the community and give new dreamers a better chance at pursuing their dreams faster. It could result in a better user experience and possibly give more insight into what it is to be a dreamer at their craft.

For now though, we have a wonderfully helpful YT community and great MM streams to draw from. Some of them quite capable of teaching a crash course. though i really don't think this has been done for each area of knowledge collectively at least. I do hope MM and the community consider your feedback, it could really improve the initial response.

these are good ideas to consider, it does need some fine tuning but, I also feel in many respects they've already done this to a degree. Beginner intermediate, advanced and master class tutorials already exist and they are broken into different areas of knowledge like logic audio animation.

It may not be perfect but I think it offered a fair intro which could include all ages though you're right it could be better refined and I do hope they continue to work the tutorial aspect.

its important beginners at any level have a positive time learning.

Maybe throw the more experienced users a John Beech masterclass MM? :)

    it can be yeah.

its confusing having the different versions and tedious to clean up.

If we could directly save everything online instead of quick-saving locally that might work for some people anyway.

Two types of animations can occur depending on which trigger you move the arms with.

FK is forward kinematics and IK is inverse kinematics.

L2 is Forward Kinematics, R2 is Inverse.

you'll see different hatch marks depending on if you hit L2 FK or R2 IK
you will see these diagonal lines which go opposite directions.

    hope this helps.

"The answer to every question is 'yes', but Dreams needs to reach a lot of people first," -Kareem Ettouney.

Someday but, honestly I wouldn't hold your breath for anytime soon, Dreams is loved by the community but it is still a small community gaining traction. Maybe sometime after ps5 launches it will gain the momentum needed to get it to PC. Either way I hope to see you on Dreams someday! Its an incredible experience for creators.

Dreams has incredible compression and the online storage is unlimited so this really isn't an issue. Just save versions of your files as private and you can make a game as large as you want.

Even locally, 1Gb and 256 elements are a lot smaller than you might imagine. Unless its audio, It takes along time to fill up (though I have hit file cap which was more an issue than the space locally)

From my somewhat limited experience with paint, I would say that this may be a bug because it feels like it should ruffle in equal opposition to the positive values.
